FAQs

  • What is the difference between a heating engineer & a plumber?

A plumber handles only water pipes, taps and toilets. A heating engineer is trained and qualified to work on gas fired appliances, boilers and heating controls.

  • How often should I have my boiler serviced?

It is recommended that you have your boiler serviced annually. This keeps your warranty valid, ensures safety, and maintains efficiency. I suggest contacting an engineer about 1 month before it is due to expire to get the job scheduled.

  • What is included in a boiler service?

A Gas Safe registered engineer will inspect the boiler, check air vents and flues for safety, test controls, check for leaks, clean key components, and perform a flue gas analysis.

  • Is a boiler service the same as a gas safety check?

No. A boiler service is maintenance to ensure efficiency and safety. A gas safety check is a mandatory inspection for landlords to confirm appliances are safe to use.

  • Why are my radiators hot at the top and cold at the bottom (or vice versa)?

This is often caused by trapped air in the system or a build-up of sludge. A service or powerflush is usually required. If they are cold at the top, you can vent them using a rad vent key.

  • Why has my boiler stopped working?

Common causes include low pressure, a broken pump, a faulty thermostat, or a failed pilot light. Check the pressure gauge and for power issues before calling.

  • How can I stop my pipes from freezing?

Keep your heating on a low setting when you are away, insulate pipes in lofts or basements, and consider installing a condensation pipe cover.

  • What should I do if I suspect a gas leak?

Turn off the gas supply at the meter, open windows, do not use electrical switches, and call the National Gas Emergency Service immediately on 0800 111 999

  • How often should I replace my boiler?

Generally, a boiler should be replaced every 10–15 years, or sooner if repairs become frequent, although I still maintain some boiler much older than this.

  • Can you install a boiler in a bathroom?

Yes, but it must be a room-sealed appliance to comply with safety regulations.

  • What is a combi boiler?

A combination (combi) boiler is a water heater and central heating boiler combined. It provides on-demand hot water, removing the need for a hot water cylinder, and is highly efficient for smaller homes.

  • Are you Gas Safe Registered?

Yes, am fully Gas Safe registered.

  • Do you charge for quotes?

We offer free written estimates for new installations.

  • Do you offer emergency call-outs?

Yes, we offer emergency services for boiler breakdowns and leaks. Please contact us immediately, though higher rates may apply outside of normal hours.

  • Do you work on oil or renewable systems?

No we only work on gas appliances

  • Are you insured?

Yes, hold full public liability insurance.

All work is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, ensuring safety compliance and peace of mind.
