Faults we fix

With over 25 years as a Gas Safe registered engineer, I repair most makes of gas boiler. Common problems I am called out for include:

• No heating or no hot water
• Boiler showing a fault code or locking out
• Pressure dropping or the boiler losing pressure
• Leaks from the boiler or pipework
• Banging, whistling or gurgling noises
• Frozen condensate pipe in cold weather
• Radiators not heating up properly
• Warm air heating units not firing or cutting out

Call-out rates

Parts are charged separately. Warm air heating has a £10 plus VAT surcharge on the first hour.

Before you call

A few quick checks can sometimes get you going again, and they help me work out what is wrong:

• Is there power to the boiler, and is the timer or thermostat calling for heat?
• Check the pressure gauge. Most boilers need around 1 to 1.5 bar when cold.
• Note any fault code on the display, and the make and model of the boiler. Please include them if you send an enquiry.
• In freezing weather, a frozen condensate pipe is a common cause. See our winter tips for how to defrost it safely.
